Ferrari to get a new boss as Marchionne is seriously ill
Ferrari have been hit hard by the news of Sergio Marchionne’s poor health.
Marchionne’s poor health will mean that Ferrari will announce a new boss by today evening as Marchionne will step down from his role.
Marchionne has been seriously ill for sometime now and hasn’t made a public appearance since the end of June.
The media is reporting that Louis Camilleri will be announced as Ferrari CEO in the meantime.
Camilleri is a Ferrari board member and former chairman of Philip Morris International. John Elkann will be named chairman.
Marchionne’s departure would come as a massive jolt for the Ferrari think tank and ecosystem as the great man has helped shape a lot of Ferrari’s success in the past.
The new top management will now have to quickly get to work as they need to adapt to the changes that F1 is slated to bring for the next few years.
The F1 future is going to be volatile under the new Liberty Media rule and the Ferrari top management will have to take important decisions regarding Ferrari’s future in the sport.

Marchionne was the major driving force in the negotiations about the 2021 rules and he was the first one to talk about an ‘exit’ from the sport, if Liberty tried to have their way a little too much.
It will be interesting to see how the new top management deals with Liberty Media and all the threats that were initially issued about quitting the sport.
Ferrari could experience some whirlwind in the backroom staff, unless ofcourse the transition is handled smoothly.
