James Key to join McLaren as technical director

McLaren have had a massive setback with respect to their top level management, as there have been multiple reports of unrest amongst the staff because of unruly behaviour and mismanagement.

They are now in damage control mode and are looking to set up a new management structure so as to help the team gain back its competitive edge.

James Key is set to join McLaren as the technical director having already resigned from his position at Toro Rosso.

The date of Key’s joining hasn’t been reported yet, but this one of the first steps that McLaren is taking to get things right at the top.

Earlier, McLaren’s racing director, Eric Boullier had resigned after growing tensions amongst his subordinates.

The position has now been made defunct at McLaren.

The matrix management structure at McLaren, one in which the entire top management used to report to each other has been considered as the reason for this mayhem.

When there is no ‘one’ guiding force, it most often than not results is multiple directions that the organisation finds itself heading towards.

McLaren are now trying to change it considering their performances on and off the track.

Matt Morris too has resigned from McLaren, stepping down from his position of engineering director.

Earlier McLaren had a three member technical team, one that comprised of Chief technical officer Tim Goss(who resigned in April), Matt Morris(engineering director) and Peter Prodromou (head of aerodynamics).

Only Peter Prodrmou remains in the organisation.

It will be interesting to see how these management changes translate into on track performances as McLaren have been seriously lacking on that front, despite having made the shift from Honda to Renault.

Hopefully the glory days of McLaren are round the corner as it would spice up the sport even more.
