WATCH: Frustrated Fernando Alonso tells team to get back to the garage
Fernando Alonso finished in 11th spot during a wet qualifying session in Hungary today, one where all drivers found it really tough to get the required grip or vision in order to push their cars hard.
Hamilton was quickest, securing yet another pole position, displaying supreme wet weather driving skills to pip both Ferrari drivers.
The highlight of the qualifying session was the conversation between Alonso and his team, one in which he was asked whether he would like to shift from inters to wets.
Alonso, who clearly was a little frustrated with the conditions(and probably the questions too), came up with a rather angry answer, telling his engineer to do whatever he deemed fit as there was no chance to improve on the existing position.
McLaren Team Radio: “Fernando, do you want new inters or wets?”
Alonso: “I think we should go to the garage… I dunno mate. Put whatever tyre you want. Even if you put a rocket ship, we will stay P11”

And as it turned out, Fernando was right, as he had assesed the conditions and the times that were being set, one in which he didn’t have even the tiniest of chance to go one spot up and into Q3.
Probably it wasn’t the right away to go about informing your team about it, but Alonso’s thought process was spot on.
