“Ayesha Curry cost me the SportsCenter job!”: Stephen A Smith described how Stephen Curry’s wife’s tweet hurt him professionally

Stephen Curry is one of the most recognizable players in today’s game. Widely considered to be the greatest three-point shooter of all time, Steph has achieved so much in the league. Two regular season MVPs and four NBA Championships speak for themselves.

However, being an elite NBA superstar isn’t the only thing he has going for him. The Baby-Faced Assassin has a wonderful family, which includes his three kids and his wife Ayesha Curry.

Both Steph and Curry together are one of the NBA’s premier power couples. But, there are times when that “power” can lead to disaster. Like the time when Ayesha’s tweet cost Stephen A Smith a job with SportsCenter.

Stephen A Smith is a man who has risen to the top of sports journalism. Known for his over-the-top reactions and witty delivery, he is without a doubt a brilliant analyst.

However, it’s not uncommon for the First Take host to find himself in a few “pickles” with his takes. For example, during the 2016 NBA Finals, Stephen A made a comment about Ayesha Curry, the wife of Stephen Curry that led to him losing a job with SportsCenter.

The comment in question had to do with Ayesha’s decision to go off on Twitter after her husband had fouled out. A decision that Stephen A, at the time labeled “irresponsible” and even used in comparison to LeBron James’ wife Savannah James. This, unfortunately, as he revealed on The Breakfast Club led to a long battle that inevitably ended with him being cost his job.

“So, let me explain this. Steph Curry is in Game 6 of the NBA Finals. LeBron and Kyrie are coming, and Steph Curry fouls out. Ayesha Curry goes ballistic. Prior to the game, she had tweeted that she was upset because they were backed up in traffic. She did that and then she went off after Steph Curry fouled out. So I said, “You are representing your man at that particular moment in time!”. I didn’t blame Ayesha Curry for anything. And so I said that, and when I said that, her response was, “You put two black women against each other!”. I was supposed to host First Take and the 6 o’clock SportsCenter by myself. And it got taken away from me, because of that incident.”

It certainly was quite the debacle. But, Stephen A wasn’t exactly in the wrong. After all, Ayesha was out of order for claiming the NBA was rigged.

Now, while it was unnecessary, Stephen A’s decision to compare Ayesha Curry to Savannah James was not unfounded. After all, Ayesha tweeted out her frustrations, going so far as to claim the NBA was rigged. Why? All because her husband got a sixth personal foul.

At the end of the day, it was a totally childish argument by both ends. One that took place seven years ago, and one that all parties involved have moved on from.
