FACT CHECK: Did Fred VanVleet's Beef With DeMar DeRozan's Daughter, Diar Result in Her Influential Display?

Fred VanVleet and the Toronto Raptors just had their season ripped to shreds by the DeMar DeRozan and the Chicago Bulls. So, suffice it to say, they are likely seething at the moment. However, they didn’t just lose this game. No, they even spurned the chance to tie it during a key point in the game.

1 missed free throw makes sense. 2 is a bit unusual, but still understandable. However, to have missed all 3 free throws is something akin to disaster. And it is DeMar DeRozan’s daughter that is to blame for it.

You see, 10-year-old Diar devised a very original and smart strategy to make the opponent miss free throws. And wouldn’t you know it, the answer turned out to be nothing more than screeching very, very loudly.

But, now there has been a question posed within the NBA community. Did the young girl only do this to support her dear father in what was the most important game of the season? Or, is there a deeper context behind it that we’re all missing?

 

Did Fred VanVleet bully DeMar DeRozan’s daughter into a revenge performance?

When you’re a 10-year-old child, it’s easy to get passionate about things. As proof of that, we have the various sports teams we support to this day, which we started supporting as children simply because those around us were too. And, of course, that couldn’t be more so the case when one’s father plays for said team.

That said, for a second it almost seemed like there was something more to it here… or so a certain Twitter account would have you believe. Take a look at the tweet below.

The clip being referred to in the post refers to this one from some time back, where Fred VanVleet was absolutely humiliating a bunch of kids for no reason, on the basketball court.

Alas, while this narrative would be beyond interesting, and would’ve made this game far more fun to watch, we have to say this is very much false. There were no hard feelings at play here. However, we do think the kids that were bullied are shedding a solitary tear of happiness, seeing that justice had finally been served.

 

What did Fred VanVleet record during this game?

Against the Chicago Bulls in the play-in tournament, VanVleet recorded an admirable 26 points, 12 rebounds, 8 assists, 1 steal, and 1 block during this game. Further, he shot 36.4% from the field, and 53.8% from beyond the arc.
