‘Could Not Be That Bad at Racing’: Daniil Medvedev Jokes of Transitioning into F1 After Tennis Retirement

Men’s singles world number three Daniil Medvedev has recently joked about wanting to transition into F1 after he retires from tennis. The Russian cracked this joke after he wore an outfit on the court at the Italian Open that resembled the look of F1’s chequered flag.

Because of how Medvedev‘s outfit looked, several fans on social media joked about the Russian perhaps wanting to participate in F1 in the future. After reading his fans’ remarks, Medvedev acknowledged (as quoted by Express.co.uk) that he likes F1 and that his outfit too, looks a bit like a ‘finish line‘ or one of a ‘rapper‘.

When suggested that he should consider making a career in music after retiring from tennis, Medvedev quickly replied that he enjoys F1 more. He joked-

“I prefer F1.  What I feel like [is that] I could not be that bad at racing. Well, we’ll see after my career if I have time to do something“.

Daniil Medvedev last year took part in a karting event alongside F1 stars Alex Albon and Daniil Kvyat. After trying his hand at karting, the Russian took to his social media account and uploaded images of the same. He added an interesting caption to this as he wrote,

“My training for F1 has already begun“.

Medvedev’s passion for racing was not just seen as a result of his karting experience but also by a hilarious Instagram story he posted last year. On the day of the Wimbledon final a year ago, the 27-year-old informed his fans on Twitter that he is watching F1 instead of tennis.

Medvedev to face Tsitsipas at the Italian Open semi-finals

Away from the world of F1, Medvedev’s focus in firmly set on the Italian Open taking place in Rome currently. The Russian tennis star looks to be in fine form ahead one of the most prestigious tennis tournaments in the world, The French Open. With the ‘King of Clay’ Rafael Nadal withdrawing due to injury, Medvedev will be looking to capitalize on that and am for the crown.

After getting past Yannick Hanfmann in the quarter-finals of the Italian Open on May 18, Daniil Medvedev will now take on Stefanos Tsitsipas in the semi-finals on May 20. The Medvedev vs Tsitsipas clash will begin live at 7:00 AM ET (4:30 PM IST).

Medvedev will hope to put in a strong performance at the current clay-court event as doing so will prepare him better for the upcoming French Open. The 2023 installment of the Roland Garros in Paris will take place from Monday, May 22 to Sunday, June 11.
