Bulls Camp Suspected Michael Jordan Let Ex-Wife Juanita Vanoy’s Dating History Cloud His Judgment for 2x All-Star: “He’s So Selfish”
Michael Jordan is one of the best in the world. But, even he is prone to human emotions, especially jealousy. In fact, Jordan was particularly jealous of two-time NBA All-Star Reggie Theus. Why? Well, his Bulls teammates believed it might have had something to do with Theus having dated Jordan’s ex-wife, Juanita Vanoy. It got so bad that the Bulls camp were even suspicious of Jordan. In 1991, MJ and the Bulls faced off against the New Jersey Nets in a regular season game. But, Michael was not his usual self. He was scoring all the points and leading his team, but something didn’t feel right. And, that was Reggie Theus.
The game ended 99-95 in favor of the Nets. Theus proved too much to handle for His Airness, who was visibly frustrated by the loss. He clearly didn’t like his fellow guard, but his excuses were all over the place. As revealed in The Jordan Rules by Sam Smith, his reasons never made any sense. So, the suspicions held by the Bulls’ camp were the only logical explanation.
Michael Jordan may have had it out for Reggie Theus because he dated Juanita Vanoy
Before marrying Michael Jordan, Juanita Vanoy reportedly dated another Chicago Bulls player. While the details are shrouded in mystery, rumor has it that Vanoy actually dated Reggie Theus. The two were supposedly together briefly in 1993.
Well, coincidentally, in the years following, Jordan developed a dislike toward Theus. Although, he never really had a proper explanation. When asked about it, he would claim he never really liked his game, that he was selfish, or that he berated the referees too much. All very unconvincing excuses.
However, his Bulls teammates had a better theory. Michael just didn’t like the fact that Theus was Juanita’s ex.
“‘He tried to undercut me in Kansas City my first year in the league,’ Jordan said once when asked about why he disliked Theus so. ‘I hate his game,’ Jordan said another time. ‘He’s so selfish, always berating the referees and yelling out there.’ None of the reasons made sense. The story around the Bulls, though, was that Theus had briefly dated Jordan’s wife, Juanita before Jordan met her. Whatever the reason, Jordan went home from New Jersey angry, and when the team met for practice Thursday in the Multiplex, he hadn’t cooled down.”
Clearly, Jordan wasn’t Theus’ biggest fan. Understandably so, it must be annoying losing to your wife’s ex. But, the six-time NBA Champion probably doesn’t feel the same way about him anymore. Especially given how his own relationship with Juanita ended.
Jordan had an incredibly messy divorce from Juanita Vanoy
He may have been annoyed with Reggie Theus back then, but that probably isn’t the case for Michael Jordan anymore. After all, he and Juanita Vanoy had one of the messiest divorces in history. He lost a total of $168 million in his 2002 divorce, nearly half his net worth. Making it one of the largest divorce settlements at the time.

Fortunately, the two have moved on following the proceedings. While not much is known about Vanoy’s love life, Jordan is happily married to former model, Yvette Prieto.
