ICC announces new test rankings: Kohli retains highest career rating points

ICC announces new test rankings after England beat India by 60 runs in the fourth test to take an unassailable 3-1 lead in the five-match test series.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the new test rankings after the fourth test between India and England. England defeated India to take a 3-1 to ensure a series-win against the no.1 test side.

Virat Kohli scored 58 in the second innings, but the effort went in vain as India fell short by 60 runs. The Indian captain, however, was rewarded for his consistent performances in both the innings in the ICC test rankings.

Virat, who already reclaimed the 1st position in test rankings from Steve Smith, retained a career-high 937 points in the latest release. He’s now only 1 rating point away from breaking into the top-10 all time highest rating points in the history of test batting rankings.

Kohli is still 24 rating points away from breaking the record of highest points ever scored (961), which is currently held by Sir Donald Bradman.

Cheteshwar Pujara also stays at 6th position, but gained 65 rating points for his unbeaten 132 in the first innings of the test, to take his total to 798 points in the rankings.

 

Among bowlers, Mohammad Shami broke into the top-20 in the rankings, while Ishant Sharma is currently at 25th place. Bumrah retains 37th position with a career-best 487 rating points.

For England, Sam Curran was rewarded for his terrific performance with both, bat and ball. The English player is now at 43rd position in test batting rankings, and jumped 11 places to 55th place in bowler’s rankings. He’s also currently 15th in the all-rounders’ list.

Moeen Ali troubled the Indian batsmen in both the innings of the test match, and justifiably moved up to 33rd place in the ICC bowler’s rankings.
