“It’s Gonna Police Itself”: Kevin Harvick Comes to NASCAR’s Rescue Amid Richmond Restart Controversy

Transitioning away from a racing series after a lengthy tenure typically stirs up a whirlwind of emotions for any driver. However, this doesn’t appear to be the case for Kevin Harvick, who is set to hang up his helmet after more than two decades at the top level of NASCAR. During a recent press interaction prior to the race at Sonoma Raceway, Harvick offered some insight into his emotional state.

As he readied himself for Sunday’s race at Sonoma, which would mark his final appearance on this road course as a NASCAR Cup Series driver, Harvick declared a lack of any “sentimental process”.

Kevin Harvick claims to have left his sentiments behind with his final season

In an interview with Frontstretch, Harvick openly discussed the notable absence of anything sentimental to hang on to during his final races. He said, “I’m way beyond all the worrying about, sentimental process… I think for me that was part of the process was to put a plan together. And be able to come on the racetrack to be past all that…”

It was certainly interesting to see him expressing a remarkable absence of anxiety and sentimentality, illustrating his pragmatic approach to this significant career shift.

Kevin Harvick recognized by the West Coast Stock Car Hall of Fame

This week, Kevin Harvick was inducted into the West Coast Stock Car/Motorsports Hall of Fame. His induction was a tribute to his remarkable NASCAR career. Harvick has carved a remarkable career in the Cup Series, with accomplishments such as his 2014 championship win and 60 victories standing as a testament to his abilities.

Beyond this recognition, the race at Sonoma brings added significance for Harvick this weekend. He will make his 806th career start in the Cup Series, a milestone propelling him to the ninth position on the all-time list. This achievement surpasses Jeff Gordon’s record for career starts in the Cup Series.

Interestingly, Harvick wasn’t the sole honoree at the induction. 2004 NASCAR champion Kurt Busch also received the same recognition. As Harvick leaves the Cup Series behind and focuses on his family and the careers of his children, his final race at Sonoma will be a nostalgic affair for the fans. Even though Harvick himself remains out of the sentiments, it sure does evoke strong emotions from his loyal fan base that has followed him over the years.
