Why Was Brendon McCullum Denied Entry At Headingley On Day One Of Ashes Test?
The ongoing Ashes 2023 has provided top-notch entertainment to the fans thus far. Be it the quality of cricket, or the engagement of fans over a host of issues involving the players and their acts, it has been a gift that keeps on giving for the cricket lovers. Just when one would start wondering what’s next in store, reports of England head coach Brendon McCullum being denied an entry at Headingley would crop up to have the fans scratch their heads in disbelief.
McCullum might have hogged various news headlines ever since England’s much talked about ‘Bazball‘ approach started paying dividends right away. However, a certain security guard in Leeds Cricket Ground apparently failed to recognize the former New Zealand captain and would remain adamant in not allowing him an entry to the venue for the third match of the series for a considerable period of time.
Why Was Brendon McCullum Denied Entry At Headingley On Day One Of Ashes Test?
As per a report from The Times, McCullum was stopped by this security guard after the former had shown him an incorrect pass, thereby disallowing him to enter into the stadium premises on Thursday. As per the news articles, this diligent guard would just not budge off despite making him aware of his identity.
The person accompanying the former star Kiwi wicket-keeper batter would even go on to explain the guard how important a person he is for the England team, but to no avail.
After repeated requests to let him in, the guard would contact one of his superior for advise on the matter. However, a livid McCullum had lost his cool by now and decided to barge in without caring for consequences saying, “You’ll have to deal with it”.
Did McCullum Miss Play On Day 1?
While the news report does not mention what happened after the incident, there was no other news of the issue snowballing into some sort of a controversy until the end of Day 2 yesterday.
It can, thus, be concluded that McCullum did follow the the match proceedings of Day 1 of the Test from England’s dressing room.
