Ganguly on Dhoni’s place in the team: In an interview, Sourav Ganguly was vocal against Dhoni’s inconsistent form in ODI cricket.

Sourav Ganguly, former India captain, the most successful one during his time, has commented on the place of another former captain and current wicket-keeper batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni in the Indian limited-overs team.

There is no hiding to the fact that of late Dhoni hasn’t been able to perform in the way he and his team would have liked. By taking his past record and reputation into consideration, Dhoni’s current numbers are nowhere near his overall numbers.

That being said, whether this mediocre show from Dhoni should mean that he should be axed from the ODI team is still debatable because of what he adds to the team is much more than runs with the bat.

Speaking in an interview to India TV, Ganguly was critical of Dhoni not performing and wanting him to register considerable amount of scores. Ganguly insisted on Dhoni being back in his prototypical ways in the Asia Cup.

“Asia Cup is a very important tournament for MS Dhoni. He is a great player and has scored a ton of runs but he won’t keep getting games just due to this. There is a time limit for everyone. I’m surprised to see that Pant wasn’t given a chance in this tournament”, said the 46-year old former captain.

 

Earlier, Virender Sehwag was in support of Dhoni continuing in the Indian team till the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 and then handing the baton to Rishabh Pant. Whether Dhoni will be axed before the World Cup is another concern for the selectors because finding a suitable replacement for him is going to be an onerous task.

While Dhoni’s batting has become a point of discussion, his wicket-keeping is still something which the people admire a lot. Despite dropping an easy catch yesterday, Dhoni’s stump to dismiss Shadab Khan was all over social media yesterday.
