Reports: Virat Kohli to take the Yo-Yo Test ahead of Team announcement
Virat Kohli to take the Yo-Yo Test: Indian captain Virat Kohli might be asked to take the Yo-Yo Test before the series against West Indies.
Virat Kohli, India’s captain in all formats of the game, might well be the next cricketer in question with respect to the Yo-Yo Test. Kohli, who was rested for the ongoing Asia Cup, is expected to pass the test ahead of the series against West Indies.
The Indian team management and selectors had made it a point for players to clear the Yo-Yo Test before any series. If Kohli is asked to take the test, it would be done more to get information regarding the extent of his injury than to judge whether he is fit enough to pass the Test or not.
According to a Navbharat Times report, Kohli will have to take the test on Friday, i.e., September 28. The squad was originally scheduled to be announced yesterday. However, with all the selectors unable to be at one venue, the same has been postponed Saturday. If the trainers and physios at NCA rule out the injured duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ishant Sharma, the announcement might well be made tomorrow.
Ravi Shastri, Head Coach of the team, has been vocal in the past in relation to no leniency being shown to unfit players. Laying exclusive emphasis on fitness has helped the Indian team reap special results in the recent past.
West Indies are scheduled to play two Test matches, five ODIs and three T20Is on their tour to India. Earlier, they were refused to train in India way before the commencement of the series.
Kohli was conferred with the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award earlier this week. If he remains fit, he will once again hold the key for the Indian team in the imminent series. Below are some of the tweets which were uploaded when he won the prestigious award:
