5 Months After Giannis Antetokounmpo’s ‘Failure’ Speech, Paul George Puts Forth ‘Championship or Failed the Season’ Ideology

Paul George was the latest addition to the Slam Magazine Cover. The Clippers star also did a small segment with Slam, answering a few questions about his career and goals. George made it amply clear during the interview that this season would be a “championship or bust” season for him. He acknowledged the recognition he has had for his achievements but made it clear that the only thing on his mind was the Larry O’Brien trophy. These statements from PG come as a direct contrast to Giannis Antetokounmpo’s words 5 months ago.

Antetokounmpo went off on the media, telling them that just because a team or a player didn’t win the Championship that year, it doesn’t turn the entire season into a failure. The speech given by Giannis came after the Bucks’ 1st round exit at the hands of the eventual Conference Champions, the Miami Heat.

Paul George believes it is “Championship or bust” time for him and the Clippers

Paul George recently graced the cover of Slam magazine. The Clippers forward even sat down for a small behind-the-scenes interview with Slam NBA. During the interview, PG talked about his current aspirations, telling Slam, “If I get a Championship that’s all it’s about. The regular stats is cool and all, but I have a bigger dream of winning a Championship.”

He continued the interview by talking about how his mentality has changed over time. PG13 now believes that it is ‘Champion or bust’ time every season.

Explaining himself further, he said “Now I am at a point where every year I am training to get a Championship. If I come up short, nothing else matters that year. At this point, I failed the year, failed the season, if I didn’t win the Championship.”

The Clippers would be looking to make a Championship run this season with Kawhi and PG leading charge. Russell Westbrook would be keen as well to prove his worth in the NBA.

Kawhi and PG to be finally free of the injury bug

Recent reports have confirmed that Kawhi Leonard would be making his return this season. The 2-time Champ is said to be cleared for all basketball activities soon. PG also ended his previous season with an injury but has since made a full recovery.

The Clippers, through their owner Steve Balmer and players like George, have made it clear that a Championship is all that matters. With a slightly new core, the superstar forwards are now under pressure to perform like never before.
