Sachin Tendulkar insists Prithvi Shaw and Shubman Gill: The legendary cricketer spoke in the affirmative about the young Indian duo.

Given how some of the rookie Indian batsmen have performed across formats for their domestic teams, India A and in the Indian Premier League, one gets the surety that the Indian cricket will be in safe hands after the current lot bids adieu to the game.

Among the two topmost batsmen which have allured approbation in the last year so are Prithvi Shaw and Shubman Gill. Both of them have become the first two players to make the transition from India’s U-19 squad of 2018 to the national team.

While Shaw made an inspiring Test debut in the home series against Windies last year, Gill played his first match for India during the ongoing tour of New Zealand, albeit in the ODI format.

In a recent interview with The Times of India, Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar was vocal about both the batsmen. Talking of Shaw, Tendulkar mentioned that he has been watching Shaw playing from a young age and was confident of him making his national debut.

“I’ve spoken about Prithvi earlier as well, having watched him bat in the nets as a little boy, all of 8-9 years of age, he had something special even back then. I knew instantly that he would play for India,” Tendulkar was quoted as saying.

While Shaw impressed one and all during his debut, Gill scored 16 runs in two outings for India. Not sounding concerned about his couple of failures, Tendulkar laid emphasis on both the cricketers needing to enjoy their game.

“Shubman also played a crucial role in last year’s U-19 World Cup and has had a good domestic season, so both of them [Shaw and Gill] have a lot of potential. Having said that, these boys have just started playing for India and they should enjoy their cricket,” Tendulkar added.
