Jose Mourinho interview after ‘Gerrard slip’ in 2014 is pure gold – Liverpool vs Chelsea
Liverpool and Chelsea meet each other in a similar situation to the one in 2014, and Mourinho’s post-match interview after Chelsea’s 2-0 win is doing the rounds again.
Chelsea will meet Liverpool in a vital Premier League clash at Anfield. Maurizio Sarri’s men are on a good run after registering convincing victories in their last three games and will aim to stop Liverpool on Sunday.
A win would also be significant for Chelsea’s top-4 chances, as the side is currently the third on the table. Liverpool, meanwhile, faces a similar situation as Chelsea, except that their fight is for the league title.
Manchester City has been relentless in the league and Jurgen Klopp’s side cannot afford to drop points. Liverpool’s situation is similar to the one they faced ahead of their game against Chelsea in 2013/14 season as well. However, Mourinho’s side broke their hearts at Anfield in that season, as Chelsea emerged 2-0 victors in the game.
Due to the similarity in both the situations, many people on social media are drawing comparisons with the game between the two sides in 2013/14. Justifiably, Jose Mourinho’s post-match interview from the game is also doing the rounds.
Mourinho’s comments after Liverpool vs Chelsea, 2013/14:
Jose Mourinho’s tactic in the game frustrated Liverpool throughout the game, as Chelsea decided to slow down the pace of the game. The visitors defended in numbers and capitalized on the limited opportunities they had in the game.
Steven Gerrard’s infamous slip in the closing stages of the first half gave Chelsea a lead through Demba Ba. Liverpool failed to breach the Chelsea defence throughout the second half, with Willian scoring a second in the injury time and putting the game to bed.
Jose Mourinho’s post-match interview may have been overshadowed by Steven Gerrard’s unfortunate moment in the game, but it is doing the rounds now. And to be honest, it is peak Mourinho.

Mourinho’s time-wasting tactics infuriated the Liverpool players throughout the game. In his autobiography, Steven Gerrard later mentioned that his side should’ve kept calm in the game, adding that Mourinho’s frustrating tactics served the purpose well for Chelsea.
What next?
Chelsea will take on Liverpool in a bid to repeat a similar result on Sunday.
