Marc-Andre Ter Stegen: Barcelona goalkeeper sends warning to Man Utd ahead of CL clash

Marc-Andre Ter Stegen has said that Barcelona will relentlessly attack in the second leg of the Champions League Quarterfinals.

Barcelona carry a slender lead against Manchester United from the first leg, thanks to an own goal from Luke Shaw. The Blaugrana did not look at their best, but they got the job done by bagging the all-important away goal at Old Trafford last week.

Despite carrying an advantage, Barcelona’s goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen has sounded out that the team will be looking to attack from minute one to progress to the next round of the competition.

“We don’t have a very big advantage,” the German told reporters Monday. “We want not only to defend it but also show that we are superior and we need to have a good game.

“We want to show that we are better than United and for that we have to beat them, and in our own way. Of course it’s important to keep a clean sheet, but we have to play with a lot of personality, like always, and dominate them.”
Barcelona scored four and conceded only one against AS Roma in the Champions League Quarterfinals last season, but they still managed to lose at Stadio Olimpico by conceding three and gave nothing in reply.
“The Roma defeat was tough but we’re here a year later and (now) we are in this moment,” added Ter Stegen.
“We don’t want it to happen again and for that we have to take it into account, but we have to look forward and try to get a good result tomorrow with our fans behind us.”
Lionel Messi, who suffered an injury against Manchester United in the first leg at Old Trafford has been deemed fit by the manager Ernesto Valverde to feature in the second leg at Nou Camp.

What’s next?

Barcelona will play back-to-back home games in the Champions League and La Liga. The Blaugrana will invite Manchester United on Tuesday night and that clash is followed by the game against Real Sociedad four days later.
