USA’s Alex Morgan is laughing at the criticism of the tea drinking celebration against England.
The United States International Alex Morgan found the back of the net, and celebrated in a unique way. She decided to do a tea drinking celebration, which has gathered criticism among English media.
The 30-year-old believes there are gender inequalities in this game because of the staggering double standards. When the male footballers are allowed to provoke the crowd, the women footballers are not even allowed to have a small banter, says Morgan.
Speaking to the BBC, Morgan said: “I feel that there is some sort of double standard for female in sports.
“To feel that we have to be humble in our successes and have to celebrate but not too much.
“You see men celebrating all over the world in big tournaments, grabbing their sacks or whatever it is.
“When I look at sipping a cup of tea, I’m a little taken aback and kind of you have about it to see all of that criticism.”
Morgan says her celebration was a tribute to the phrase ‘that’s the tea’, slang for gossip or interesting news, frequently used on social media by Game of Thrones actress Sophie Turner.
“My celebration was actually more about ‘that’s the tea’ – telling a story, spreading news. Sophie Turner does it quite often, she’s one of my favourite actresses,” she said.
“It wasn’t a hit to England in anyway.”

Too many people apologize for things that they shouldn’t. I thought it was cool. Folks are too sensitive and we (men) are SO extra when it comes to celebrating @alexmorgan13 💪🏿 pic.twitter.com/0zpQuTOgTA
