Fernando Alonso has the entire F1 fraternity waiting with bated breath, as the Spaniard released a social media post a couple of days back regarding a massive announcement on 14th August.

Ever since that post, social media has been abuzz with discussions on what the announcement could be and if Alonso was indeed leaving Formula 1 in order to race in the IndyCar series.

Alonso and McLaren both have been keen on IndyCar and it seemed like the ‘dreaded’ announcement was indeed going to be about that.

However, Adam Stern has reported that according to what he has heard is that Alonso’s announcement today is going to be about Indy500 and not about Alonso quitting F1 entirely.

“There’s chatter around IndyCar tonight that tomorrow’s Alonso announcement may just be Indy 500-related, but it’s unclear right now what that would mean for McLaren Indy’s possible full time aspirations” Adam Stern tweeted.

Alonso is gunning for the Indy500 title, as a win in Indianapolis will make him only the 2nd motorsport driver in history to claim the triple crown(having already won the Monaco GP and Le Mans 24).

Alonso has been in contention for racing the Indy 500 event this year in a bid to achieve that remarkable feat and according to Stern that is what is going to be confirmed today.

Nevertheless, the IndyCar twitter account tried to take advantage of all the hooplah around the Alonso announcement, as they quizzed him about their lunch date today, sparking speculations of a full time move to IndyCar.
