In the wake of team India’s poor display in the Champions trophy final, Anil Kumble had apparently scolded the team for their poor performance. And it looks like he may have lost his job because of it.

India headed into the final on the back of some brilliant performances. Their defeat to Sri Lanka was considered as a one off, as the team looked to be in fine form ahead of the final.

The much vaunted batting line up was looking quite intimidating as the likes of Rohit, Dhawan and Kohli were in sparkling form throughout the tournament. But come the big day, all three failed as an inspired Mohammed Aamir knocked them over in a fiery opening spell.

After the match, Kumble was very upset with the players and he made sure they got the message. The players, who very already upset with the result, did not appreciate Kumble’s forceful approach and conveyed this to the captain.

Kohli, who himself has had a frosty equation with Kumble lately, had told the BCCI about his reservations over Kumble as a coach. Eventually, there was only one option, as Kumble stepped down as head coach, citing his reasons in an open letter.

This is what a top official told TOI,

“The differences between them are not resolvable. It’s not about Kumble going to the West Indies. It’s about the fact that in the long run it’s not sustainable. Both have their views in terms of roles and responsibilities and they were not always on a common page. After recent interactions, Kumble has realised that this issue won’t be sorted out. Obviously, we aren’t going to get rid of the captain. So, it’s he who has to step down. There’s just no other option.”
