And so it ends. Anil Kumble has stepped down as the head of team India. In some ways it is very smart decision, as it seemed as if it was only a matter of time before someone else was named the head coach. But that is no excuse for the shambolic manner in which the BCCI has handled this entire matter. Just hours of officially stepping down, Anil Kumble writes an open letter to his fans explaining his decision to leave his post as head coach.

Eyebrows were raised as Kumble did not accompany the team to the West Indies. Although his contract was only until the end of the Champions trophy, he was widely expected to stay on till the West Indies tour.
The BCCI had given Kumble an extension until the end of the Windies tour, which was then turned down by Kumble. The legendary leg spinner was hurt by all the controversy surrounding his job over the last few weeks.
Apparently, Kumble and Kohli were not seeing eye to eye for a few days prior to the Champions trophy. Many claim that the pair barely had any interaction during the tournament as well. According to reports, Kohli has told the BCCI that the team would like to have a new coach.
Kumble probably thought that it would be wise if he himself stepped down from his post. In his letter, he has clearly mentioned that his relationship with Kohli has clearly deteriorated and maybe he felt that there was no coming back.
It is an unfortunate situation that should have been avoided.
