Anthony Davis was in LA last night as the Pelicans took on the Lakers in Staples center. LeBron and co. came out on top after a hard fought encounter, with both Davis and LeBron fighting sickness to put on a show for their respective teams.

But it was what transpired post the game that interested a lot of NBA fans, as Yahoo reported that the duo had dinner together in LA, amidst rumours of Lakers trying to trade Davis to join forced with LeBron.

LeBron has been vocal about being interested in having Davis beside him in Los Angeles. a statement that didn’t quite go down well with the Pelicans.

Accusations of tampering were raised but LeBron later clarified them by saying that he merely put forth his ‘interest’ in playing with someone as talented as Davis, with the same case being for playing with KD, Butler and other young stars from the league.

Celtics and Lakers are in the drivers seat to secure the services of Davis, with Pelicans having the option of providing Davis with a $239 million supermax extension post the on-going season.

However, Davis has confirmed that legacy and not money will determine where Davis ends up next season.

“I’d take legacy over money,” Davis said.

I” want to have a legacy. All my people that look up to me, the younger kids, I want them to know about AD’s legacy. Championships, the things I do in the community, being a good teammate, playing hard. All that stuff matters the most to me. Don’t get me wrong, money is amazing. But I think in that sense, money or legacy, I think my legacy will win that battle every time.” he added.

Davis also responded to the loud cheers that he received when his name was being announced before the game.

“It’s cool to have fans everywhere you go,” Davis said, “

“But my job is about the Pelicans right now.” he added.

Davis will in all probability decline the $28.7 million player option for the 2020-21 season, and could hit free agency. Thus, it would make sense for Pelicans to trade him earlier and get some value out of the deal.

Now, with Davis’ comments about legacy over money(something that Lakers is fondly known for) and the report about his dinner with LeBron, it does seem like Lakers are in  pole position to secure the services of Davis next year.
