Arsenal are already close on a deal for Borussia Dortmund defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos.

Premier League giants, Arsenal, are reportedly interested in signing Real Betis defender, Junior Firpo.

The 21-year-old made his senior debut with the Spanish side back in February, but has since made 14 La Liga starts.

Spanish publication, AS, reports that Arsenal scouts have been hugely impressed by the performances of the left-back, and have given a positive response to the club officials.

Firpo, a left-back by trade, can also play further up the left-flank while he is also capable of playing as a central defender. This will make him a much-needed versatile player for the Gunners.

AS also reports that the Spanish club, Real Betis, are mindful of Arsenal’s reported interest in the 21-year-old and want to renew Firpo’s contract. Firpo only has a £22 million release clause in his current contract, and Betis will want to raise that sum before the start of next season. Firpo is of Dominican descent, but moved to Spain when he was six years old.

On the other hand, AS also reports that experienced Arsenal left-back, Nacho Monreal, has been linked with a move away from the Emirates.

The Spanish veteran was an integral part of Arsene Wenger’s squad, but with the departure of the Frenchman, it is said that Nacho will also be parting ways with the Gunners.

Spanish club, Real Sociedad, has also been interested in signing the 32-year-old defender, and are interested in making a move for him.

On the other hand, Nacho Monreal’s contract at the Emirates runs out at the end of next season, and Arsenal will be looking to cash in on him this summer.

The Spanish international had one of his best seasons at Arsenal last term, scoring six times to go along with his defensive contributions.

With Monreal’s departure on the cards, Arsenal is likely to push harder for the signature of Junior Firpo, who is believed to be the replacement of the 32-year-old.
