In the ever-lasting transfer saga that has been going on for Arsenal this January, reports have come out that the Gunners have finally agreed terms set by Borussia Dortmund to acquire the services of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The Gabon striker was on Real Madrid’s radar for quite some time, as Los Blancos were keen on bringing him to the Bernabeu. But it looks like they have blown their chance as Aubameyang looks to be on his way to the Premier League.

Reports suggest that Arsenal are on the verge of completing the signing of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund after the clubs agreed a £55 million (€63m) fee for the Gabon international.

It’ll be a club record fee for the Londoners just five months after they set that mark to secure Alexandre Lacazette from Ligue 1 this season.

Initial reports had said that Borussia Dortmund asked €70mn for Auba, which was considered too much asking by Arsenal for the 28-year-old. Arsene Wenger had claimed that the talks were on the verge of a fall-out as well.

But now, according to Fabrizio, a deal in the region of €65M (£57.1m) has been sorted between the clubs and, all going well, Aubameyang will sign a contract until 2021 at the Emirates Stadium, worth €10m a season.

Aubameyang will pair up with his former BVB team-mate Henrik Mkhitaryan at Arsenal who has recently arrived in the swap deal with Manchester United for Alexis Sanchez. The Aubameyang-Mkhitaryan pair had had smashed 62 goals in between them in the season prior to the Armenian’s arrival at Manchester United.

Aubameyang, who scored 31 league goals last season, was left out of two consecutive games for Dortmund after missing a team meeting, with head coach Peter Stoger accusing him of not being focused. His recent fallout with the BVB board of Directors and the German media in itself has not helped the situation either.

For Arsenal though, Aubameyang will go far in filling the huge void left by Alexis Sanchez. At the end of last season, both Ozil and Sanchez had just one year left on their contracts and most Arsenal fans were dreading the worst this year.

But less than a year from then, Arsenal have brought in Lacazette, Mkhitaryan and now Aubameyang. Yes, they lost Sanchez but there is growing optimism that Ozil will sign a new deal and stay at the club which come as a huge boost to the club and it’s supporters.

Not bad from Arsene Wenger eh?
