Arsenal Transfer News: Chelsea star refuses to train in a bid to force Gunners move

David Luiz has refused to train with Chelsea in a bid to force a Gunners transfer.

Arsenal’s centre-back conundrum could be drawn curtains before the transfer window ends. Unai Emery’s pursual of a defender is well-known to the public, despite William Saliba’s acquisition.

Chelsea’s fan favourite David Luiz could force a move to Arsenal after refusing to train at Cobham training ground today, according to L’ Equipe. The Brazilian has a contract until 2021 with the Blues, but could head to their fierce rivals. The Gunners are seeking to strengthen their backline and could end up signing the former PSG defender this window.

It is uncertain if the Blues are willing to do business with Arsenal, but what it remains is the player trying to force a move. His personal agreement is in advanced stages, but the move could be blocked by Frank Lampard. The Blues are currently serving a transfer ban and an outgoing transfer at this stage could have a consequence because of the rivals matching ambition to finish in a Champions League spot next season.

The 32-year-old was scrutinised for his lamentable defending last season, but he managed to make 50 appearances. The defender is also useful in front of the goal after notching up 3 goals and two assists last campaign.

The centre-back has made 248 appearances during his two stints with the club and racked up one Premier League, Champions League, and two FA Cups. Even though Frank Lampard does not see David Luiz as the first-choice defender at the club, his experience behind the scenes would be pivotal.

On the other hand, Arsenal could be benefitted for a short-term should they manage to rope in David Luiz for a year or two. The persistent centre-back problems could be brought to an end as Sokratis has already proved to be a solid centre-back.

Here’s how Twitter has reacted..

What’s next?

The Gunners have been rejected by Juventus and Leipzig for Daniele Rugani and Dayot Upamecano. David Luiz’s transfer move will come as a huge boost for Arsenal. They would desire to get over the line to add more experience to the backline.
