Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo hits back at Cristiano Ronaldo for his offensive gesture.

It was full drama when Atletico Madrid played Juventus at Wanda Metropolitano on Wednesday. The Spanish side came on top by securing a 2-0 victory, but there was one moment which caused tension to the whole stadium which was filled with joyous Atletico Madrid faithful.

The scoreline was 0-0 during the first half and Atletico Madrid fans did not hesitate to sit back when Juventus had the possession. Instead, they were continuously booing and there was a loud jeer was heard whenever Cristiano Ronaldo touched the ball. In order to give a fitting reply, the former Real Madrid forward showed five times which implies the number of Champions League titles he has won in his career.

Even though he showed five fingers, everybody could not understand what he pointed out until he vented his frustration in the mixed zone after the game by saying “I have five Champions Leagues, you [Atletico] have none.”

The Juventus forward is the player with most number of Champions League titles in the bag with five. The Portuguese International won the trophy once with Manchester United, and the rest four with Atletico Madrid’s arch-rivals Real Madrid during his nine-year stay at Santiago Bernabeu.

Following these comments, Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo decided to hit back at Cristiano Ronaldo by saying that he has won only three Champions League titles in his career.

“It was a great match, despite the result being a little tight. To his gesture, due to a moment of great tension, I understand and do not condemn him, I feel the need to say that Cholism is everything for Atletico Madrid. Another small clarification is: Cristiano Ronaldo has not won five Champions Leagues at all, but only three, the remaining two against Atletico, he did not really win them.” said Cerezo.

Despite taunting the whole crowd, Cristiano Ronaldo has scored the lesser number of goals in the Champions League since 2004/05 by finding the back of the net only once in six games which is a worrying stat for Massimiliano Allegri.

The 34-year-old has been scoring goals for fun in the Serie A and will be looking to do the same when they face Atletico Madrid to overturn a two-goal deficit. It will be a tough game, but Diego Simeone and Massimiliano Allegri will tweak their tactics in the second leg to progress to the next round.
