Badminton Asia Championship : Sindhu advances but Saina bows out
India’s top seed and Rio Olympics Silver medalist PV Sindhu entered the second round of the Badminton Asia Championship today.
Sindhu who is the current world number three in the world beat Indonesia’s Dinar Dyah Ayustine 21-8, 21-18 in a one side match. The match barely lasted half an hour in which Sindhu hardly broke a sweat as she breezed her way into the second round.
The same cannot be said for Saina Nehwal. The London Games bronze medalist lost to Sayaka Sato of Japan 19-21, 21-16, 21-18 in a closely contested match. In what was comfortably the most competitive match of the round, Saina went down fighting as the Sato just had a little bit more left in the tank.

Saina had fond memories from this competition as she had two previous podium finishes at this event.
It is a tough time for Saina Nehwal as there are rumors of her considering to give up the game in the very near future. She has faced an uphill battle ever since she has come back from his knee injury which ruled her out for a major chunk of last year.

It was also announced today that Saina Nehwal’s badminton career will be brought to life in celluloid in a biopic. Shraddha Kapoor will be playing Saina Nehwal’s character in what would be one of the most awaited biopics in recent memory.
Meanwhile, PV Sindhu is enjoying the best phase of her career and will hoping to progress far if not win this competition. Her quest for the world number one rankings continue as it is only a question of time before she reaches the pinnacle of world badminton.
