Marc-Andre ter Stegen made a heroic effort to save an otherwise winner against Lyon in the Champions League.

Barcelona were held to a draw by Lyon in their Champions League clash last night. The side failed to score against the Ligue 1 outfit and will host the second leg at Camp Nou.

Luis Suarez was criticised for his performance in the game. The striker is yet to score in a Champions League away game since 2015 for Barcelona.

Moreover, Suarez has only scored on four occasions in his last 25 appearances for Barcelona.

While Barca failed to score a goal, they almost conceded a worldly to Lyon in the first half of the match.

ter Stegen stretched himself for a gigantic leap as he punched the ball as hard as he could. The ball touched the bar before going out for a corner.

Here’s the video of the brilliant save:

Martin Terrier took the goal attempt from just outside the box. ter Stegen was quick to act as he almost flew to make the save.

Barcelona will play the second leg of the tie at Camp Nou on March 13.

The side will return to action on March 23 as Barca take on Sevilla in the league game. Ernesto Valverde’s side is seven points clear of the second-placed Atletico Madrid at the top of the table.

Before facing Lyon in the second leg, however, Barcelona await a double-header against Real Madrid next week. The side will play their arch-rivals twice at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The Catalan giants will take on Real in the second leg of the Copa del Rey semifinal before meeting the side in the league clash on the weekend.

Here’s how Twitter reacted to ter Stegen’s performance:
