The Serbian has been a hot property in transfer market this summer.

Segrej Milinkovic-Savic impressed the European heavyweights with his performances in Serie A for Lazio. Naturally, he has been hounded by transfer speculations all summer. According to reports from British media, Manchester United have reduced interest in the player, and FC Barcelona instead have shortlisted the midfielder as a transfer target.

Mundo Deportivo reports that the Catalan giants see Milinkovic-Savic as a versatile player, with offensive as well as defensive abilities. The Spanish outlet claims that Savic has been long monitored by FC Barcelona, even before the eventual interest from Premier League giants like Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea.

With the departure of Andres Iniesta, Barcelona identifies Segrej Milinkovic-Savic as a top-quality replacement for the Spanish midfielder. Savic also holds a Spanish passport, which would make the move easy for Barca.

The midfielder is currently representing Serbia and was central to their victory in the first game against Costa Rica. However, Serbia suffered heartbreak as they conceded a final-minute winner to Switzerland in their second match. As the World Cup enters the final match-day of group stages, Serbia will face Brazil in a bid to secure place in the round-of-16.

Meanwhile, when Savic was asked about the transfer speculations surrounding him, he dismissed the question. He stated that his focus is solely on the World Cup campaign with Serbia.

“I can smile, but I have to think solely about the World Cup,” said Savic.
