Two-time World Champion Max Verstappen reveals what his favorite football team is

Max Verstappen is a huge fan of football like plenty of other stars in F1. Ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, he named his favorite footballers who were mostly his Dutch National team players including the likes of Virgil van Dijk. Outside of The Netherlands, however, he admitted that he is a huge admirer of French sensation Kylian Mbappe.

However, as it turns out, Verstappen does not support Liverpool (Van Dijk’s team) or Paris Saint German (Mbappe’ s team). Instead, he is a huge fan of another European giant in FC Barcelona and also supports local club PSV Eindhoven.

Barcelona is one of the most successful clubs in Spain and Europe, with five Champions League Titles to their name. They have struggled a lot behind record Champions Real Madrid as of late, but Verstappen’s support for them remains intact. The 25-year-old’s love for the Catalan club grew arguably because of Lionel Messi, who recently created history by winning the FIFA World Cup with Argentina.

Max Verstappen settles the Messi vs Ronaldo GOAT debate

Football fans have been arguing about who the better player between Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo almost two decades. Both fanbases have put forward strong points that contribute towards their hypotheses of why their favorite player is actually better.

Verstappen, however, has a clear answer when it comes to the Messi-Ronaldo debate. For him, the 35-year-old Argentine is clear of his Portuguese rival. However, the Red Bull driver’s statement was only based on actual talent since he feels that Ronaldo has worked harder to keep himself as fit as he is at the age of 38.

“I find it impossible to choose because I think Messi has more talent than Cristiano,” Verstappen said. “But Cristiano has just kept on working and being incredibly fit.”

Unfortunately for Ronaldo, Portugal got eliminated by Morocco in the Quarter-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Considering the 5-time Ballon D’Or winner’s age, it’s highly likely that it was his last shot at winning the biggest prize there is in football.
