Antoine Griezmann’s transfer to Barcelona is in sudden danger after Atletico Madrid consider taking legal action.
Atletico Madrid are considering mulling Barcelona for poaching Antoine Griezmann earlier this year. Spanish publication Cadena Sar say that the club has documents that show that the World Cup winner began talks with Barcelona last November before agreeing to personal terms in March.
That move has angered Atletico Madrid, who will take legal action against Barcelona in the forthcoming days. The relationship between these two clubs have widened ever since learning the method of tapping-up. The Atletico Madrid hierarchy believe that the attacker was diverted when they had both Champions League and La Liga in stake.
Earlier this month, the French International confirmed his departure from the club, although the destination has not been told anywhere. In a meeting with CEO Miguel Ángel Gil Marín and Diego Simeone, Griezmann refused to disclose his next club. However, Atletico expected that his next could be Barcelona after their relentless pursuit last summer.
Now Atletico look forward into this issue, they will take a call if they want to take legal action against Barcelona. But this latest news from Cadena Sur could likely sour ties between the directors of Atlético and Barcelona, who, up to now, have always maintained a very cordial relationship.
Antoine Griezmann’s release clause falls from 200 to 120 million on July 1 and Barcelona will make a move on that day should there be no accusations against them. The World Cup winner has been one of the best performers for Atletico over the last few seasons and his departure will leave a huge loophole in the team.
Paulo Dybala has been tipped to be Griezmann’s replacement, but the Juventus forward has confirmed his stance to stay at Turin irrespective of the transfer talks.
