Manchester United are facing competitions from the Spanish Giants Barcelona for the transfer of Benfica defender Victor Lindelof after a report from Portugal suggests that the Catalans’ scouts were present to watch him play over the weekend. The 22-year-old Swede was more likely than not to land at Old Trafford this January, though the deal never materialised from the Jose Mourinho’s side. This news comes as a shock as the Swede’s former team-mate Robin Bloome confirmed his departure last December.

However, it remains to be seen if the Red Devis would come knocking at the door of Benfica for the Swede defender. According to the Portuguese publication O Jogo, Barcelona has emerged as suitors for the services of the defender after the presence of their scouting team at the Estadio da Luz.  (Barcelona are scouting Manchester United transfer target Victor Lindelof !)

Lindelof certainly looks like a big talent, and his attributes would fit right in at a club of Barcelona’s stature. United may be left to rue their missed chance at snapping the young defender when they had the choice of signing him.

Mourinho has already invested an enormous amount of money on the new signings since his arrival at Old Trafford. Slowing things instead of rushing at this point of the season would be the key going into the Summer transfer for the Red Devils.
