Barcelona transfer news: Valverde targets £150 million rated Liverpool star after impressive performance in CL

Ernesto Valverde is currently eyeing a deal for the left-back Andy Robertson after an impressive performance in the Champions League.

Barcelona were knocked out of the Champions League in a humiliating fashion and Ernesto Valverde is looking to solve the problems quickly in order to lift the prized asset next season. The Blaugrana were 3-0 up in the first leg, but they were not able to handle Anfield and suffocated to the attenuated Liverpool side, who thrashed them 4-0 in front of their home fans to progress to the Champions League finals for the second time on a trot.

Jordi Alba has been criticised for his defending through both the legs. Jurgen Klopp’s men were not able to capitalize on their chances in the first leg, but they were clinical in front of the goal in the second part of the two-legged tie. The Spanish International was the sole reason for the second goal when Trent Alexander Arnold stealed the ball from his legs to find Gini Wijnaldum inside the penalty box.

According to the Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, the reigning Spanish Champions are looking to lure Andy Robertson from Liverpool, but it’s practically impossible given the price tag. The Scottish International recently committed his long-term future with the Reds, and it is not feasible to prise him away from Jurgen Klopp. He is starting literally every game for the English outfit, and Liverpool would not be even prepared to listen to the offers.

However, the report adds on that any offer around 50 million would be able to secure his signature. But, the main stumbling point is the premium amount the Blaugrana have to pay to sign a Liverpool player. Various sources cited that the club needs to pay 100 million premium besides the transfer fees.

Having already signed Frenkie De Jong for 90 million, it is unlikely to see Barcelona shell out an enormous amount on another player this summer.

What’s next?

Liverpool will play Tottenham Hotspur in the finals of the Champions League at Wanda Metropolitano on June 1. Before that crucial encounter, they will take on Wolverhampton Wanderers in the final day of the Premier League at Anfield on Sunday.
