Bashir Chacha wore the Indian jersey

Bashir Chacha wore the Indian jersey: The ardent fan of Pakistan cricket team revealed that he wore the Indian jersey because of MS Dhoni.

In between the overall fierce rivalry between India and Pakistan on the cricket field, what many people usually ignore is the affection between the people of both the countries. People who know someone or the other across the border might understand this in a better way.

Even the cricketers, who majorly participate in these tightly-fought on-field battles, have so many times been seen as bonding with their counterparts after the match or during practice sessions. The sight of cricketers from both the countries sharing a laugh after last year’s ICC Champions Trophy 2017 is one of the recent memories of the same.

Notwithstanding the fact that (any) sport chooses one winner and one loser, people tend not to realise that it is a medium which has it in it to promote unity and harmony among citizens of various countries.

One such incident happened recently when former India captain and current wicket-keeper batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni visited Bashir Chacha, a fan of Pakistan cricket team who is seen supporting them to all parts of the world.

Speaking on a TV show after the Asia Cup got over, Bashir Chacha said that he was in his room when Dhoni arrived to gift him a signed jersey ahead of the final match of the Asia Cup against Bangladesh. Chacha further added that this was the reason why he wore an Indian jersey on the following day.

“Raat barah baje, kamre ki bell hoti hai Hayat hotel mein. Door kholta hu, samne Dhoni sahab khade hue hai,” Chacha said. “Hum log same floor pe the. Unhone mujhe bola Chacha naya, brand-new. Aap yeh T-shirt pehen na,” (Someone knocked my door at 12’o clock in the night. When I opened the door, it was MS Dhoni himself at the door. We were on the same floor. He gave me a brand new T-shirt and asked me to wear it) Bashir Chacha added.

What followed for an 8-year-old was an instant adulation for both Ganguly and the sport. The optimist in him is waiting for the day when Punjab Kings will win their maiden Indian Premier League title. When not watching cricket, he is mostly found in a cinema hall watching a Punjabi movie.
