During the first match of the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 between England and South Africa at The Oval, England all-rounder Ben Stokes snatched an exceptional one-handed catch to dismiss South Africa all-rounder Andile Phehlukwayo.
It all happened on the first delivery of the 35th over when Phehlukwayo’s attempt to play a slog sweep off England leg-spinner Adil Rashid saw him mis-timing the ball. Stokes, who was fielding at deep mid-wicket, judged well in time the prospect of a catch being taken.

Having said that, with him taking a few steps back, it was never going to be an easy chance. As the ball reached him, Stokes timed his jump to perfection to catch the ball with his right hand midway in the air.
Phehlukwayo, who came in to bat at No. 8 in the 32nd over, ended up scoring 24 (25) with the help of four fours. With the visitors chasing 312 runs to win the match, the southpaw had given signs of taking them closer but not to be.
The dismissal saw South Africa losing their seventh wicket. The same has also decreased their chances of sealing the chase. South Africa opening batsman Hashim Amla, who had earlier retired hurt after being hit on the head by a Jofra Archer delivery, walked back on to the field to replace Phehlukwayo.
