Betting company calls 2019 Cricket World Cup final "absolute disgrace"; to refund 11,500 punters

Betting company calls 2019 Cricket World Cup final: The Australian bookmaker seems let-down by the International Cricket Council.

The outcome of the recently concluded final match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 between New Zealand and England coming on the back of a team scoring more boundaries hasn’t gone down well with Australian bookmaker Sportsbet.

Betting company calls 2019 Cricket World Cup final as “absolute disgraceful”

After the match ended in a tie, the super over also witnessed both the teams scoring the same number of runs to register the second tie in the same match. Citing the strange criteria to decide the winner, Sportsbet’s spokesperson called the method as “absolute disgrace”.

The company also announced refunds amounting to 426,223 AUD to nearly 11,450 people who were backing New Zealand to win. The step was taken in a bid to compensate for the World Cup to be decided in such a disgraceful manner. The bookmaker further added that punter shouldn’t suffer because of “ineptness” of the ICC (International Cricket Council).

“Punters who backed New Zealand in both the head to head and the outright tournament market will be refunded their stakes in bonus bets.

“Let’s not beat around the bush, for a World Cup to be decided in that manner is an absolute disgrace, and the punters shouldn’t have to pay for the ineptness of the ICC,” Sporsbet spokesperson Rich Hummerston was quoted as saying.
