BREAKING: Suresh Raina clears the Yo-Yo Test
Virat Kohli has made fitness a key component of the Indian cricket team’s outlook, making it compulsory for every player to clear the ‘Yo-Yo’ test in order to be eligible for selection in the national side.
For a long time, Suresh Raina and Yuvraj Singh were lynchpins of the Indian middle order, but fell out of contention after having apparently failed the ‘Yo-Yo’ test.
Yuvraj Singh was dropped following a rather hot and cold Champions Trophy and Suresh Raina last played for India in a T20 International against England in 2017. Both these players haven’t been in contention for selection due to their inability to pass the cut off score in the Yo-Yo Test.
Yuvraj Singh passed the Yo-Yo Test a week back with a score of 16.3, after having trained at the NCA in Bangalore and having given up on a lot of Ranji Trophy cricket. The Yo-Yo Test had become a priority for him even if it meant missing out on a lot of crucial match practice.
Suresh Raina also went down the Yuvraj Singh road and ultimately came out with flying colours, clearing the test today at NCA in Bangalore.
Suresh Raina and Yuvraj Singh should now be available for selection, provided they get some runs under their belt in the domestic circuit.
Raina had a very forgetful Ranji season with UP and would be hoping that clearing the Yo-Yo Test can change his fortunes.
Suresh Raina posted the message about clearing the Yo-Yo Test on social media, thanking all his coaches and colleagues for their support at the NCA.
“Cleared my Yo-Yo & fitness test today, after days of hard work at #NCA! Received tremendous support from all the trainers, coaches & officials. Thank you all! It’s always so encouraging to train here at #NCA, motivates me to push my limits and bring the best out of me.” Raina said.
