Chahal on MS Dhoni

Chahal on MS Dhoni: Indian leg-spinner spoke about how Dhoni’s presence on the field helps the Indian bowlers.

The customary routine of young players admitting that former India captain and current wicket-keeper batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s presence on the field helps them day in and day out has received yet another episode.

Known for giving insights about the batsmen to his spinners, Dhoni is often seen chatting with them in between overs. Apparently, it is a spinner in Yuzvendra Chahal who has been vocal for Dhoni this time round.

It is worth mentioning that Chahal had made his ODI and T20I debut under Dhoni’s captaincy. With Chahal throwing heaps of praises on Dhoni, he has joined the list of current Indian cricketers in   Virat KohliKedar JadhavRishabh Pant, Siddarth Kaul and Mohammad Siraj.

“I turn to Dhoni bhai whenever I am in trouble or need any advice during a match. Dhoni bhai has amazing observation skills. He can tell from behind the stumps that a bowler has a doubt or has questions by out body language alone. Whenever I am in doubt, he comes and solves the problems,” he was quoted.

Chahal also disclosed that he wasn’t the only bowler in the current Indian team to take this route. “Not just me, other bowlers too take help from him. We are lucky to have him in the team,” Chahal said.

The 28-year old spinner cited an example on how Dhoni’s inputs aids him on the field. “During the match, Rohit Sharma was having a discussion with Dhoni bhai. Rohit came and asked me to bowl in the powerplay. I looked at Dhoni bhai, he rushed towards me and asked me to bowl stump to stump.

“I did just that and trapped Imam-ul-Haq lbw. This is not the first time Dhoni bhai has guided me. There have been many occasions in the past, when I got wickets because of him,” Chahal added.

Dhoni is also famous for his cheeky comments on his bowlers from behind the wickets. Chahal agreed on the same, saying that the former captain scolds them (the bowers) as well. “Sometimes Dhoni bhai scolds us from behind the stumps, when we make mistakes,” he said.

Chahal also let out that apart from the bowlers, captain Virat Kohli also looks up to Dhoni  in pressure situations. “Virat Kohli is a great captain. Sometimes, when in doubt, he too approaches Dhoni (on the field) and asks for advice. And it works really well for the team,” Chahal further added.

Chahal refused to compare the three Indian captains that he has played under. “All three have different styles of captaincy. You can’t compare their captaincy styles,” he said.
