Champions League final referee: UEFA announce match referee for final and it's concerning for Jurgen Klopp

Tottenham Vs Liverpool: Liverpool have a concerning record under the games officiated by the referee named Damir Skomina.

Liverpool will take on Tottenham Hotspur in the finals of the Champions League at Wanda Metropolitano on June 1. The Reds hammered Barcelona in the second leg, whilst Spurs came back from a two-goal deficit to score three and progress to the finals of the European competition.

Slovenian International Damir Skomina has been appointed as the referee for this huge clash. The 42-year-old has already referred four Champions League and two Europa League games this season.

He was the referee who took in charge during Liverpool’s must-win game against Napoli at Anfield in the group stages this campaign. This remains the only victory for the Reds, who have drawn two and lost two in other four games when he was appointed as the referee.

Having already been eliminated from the Champions League group stages, Liverpool invited Fiorentina to Anfield in 2009. The game ended in a 2-1 defeat to the Reds and Skomina was the match referee for that game. Brendan Rodgers’ side were dumped out of the Europa League by Besiktas when the game went down to penalties after struggling to find a way in 90 minutes. They lost the game 1-0 in regular time under the same referee.

Jurgen Klopp’s side travelled to Villarreal to face the yellow submarines in the Semifinals of the Europa League. The English outfit lost the first leg in dying seconds of the game when Adrian took charge of a tap-in. The other game he officiated was when Liverpool went down to Roma 4-2 at Stadio Olimpico, but they progressed to the finals of the competition last season.

Liverpool’s record when Damir Skomina has taken in charge of the game

Games managed: 5

Liverpool won: 1

Liverpool lost: 4

Drawn: 0

Games

2009 – Home loss to Fiorentina (1-2)

2015 – Away loss to Besiktas (0-1)

2016 – Away loss to Villareal (0-1)

2018 – Away loss to Roma (2-4)

2018 – Home win v Napoli (1-0)

Tottenham Hotspur do not enjoy a great record too. The London outfit have lost once and drawn twice under his refereeing in European competitions.

Damir Skomina has officiated five Premier League sides in the CL and EL this season, and all five have won their games. The record will remain intact as it’s an all-English affair between Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.
