Chelsea Identify Replacement For UMNT”s Christian Pulisic in form of a Bayern Munich Forward

Is Pulisic Still Injured: Frank Lampard Confirms Return Date For USNMT’s Christian Pulisic: The Chelsea player edges closer to a return as he continues his recovery from an ongoing hamstring issue

As Chelsea get ready to take on Rennes in their impending Champions League clash, the man at the helm sat down to address questions prior to the Group E clash. Frank Lampard also spoke on the injury issues at hand including put a date on Christian Pulisic’s return for the Premier League giants.

Christian Pulisic Likely To Return Against Tottenham

While a return against Rennes has been ruled out for Pulisic with the USMNT man not travelling to France, Lampard confirmed that Pulisic was extremely close to getting the go ahead from the medical team. The Chelsea manager confirmed that Pulisic should be back in Chelsea’s squad for their Premier League clash against Tottenham this weekend.

“Christian stays back and doesn’t travel but the good news is that he has had aggression in the last week. The reason he has stayed back is to get some physical work in so hopefully that will have him ready for selection come the weekend and onwards,” Lampard detailed about Pulisic’s injury situation.

Havertz And Silva Return

Lampard also confirmed that Kai Havertz and Thiago Silva were both back in contention for the club after having previously missed out on the club’s tie against Newcastle United.

Lampard Addresses Giroud’s Comments

Although Giroud’s playing time has been massively cut down owing to Werner’s arrival at the club, Frank Lampard said that the Frenchman continues to remain an integral part of the club’s gameplan.

“I do have plans to have Oli very important in our squad. He was a big member of our squad last year and I think he played a lot of games and made a lot of starts for us last year. When you look at our games, he made a lot of league starts and I think he played a relative amount.”

He will always want to play more. He is a huge member of the squad for me and I know he will be important for us going forward. I want Oli to stay here because he will play and I have a good relationship with Oli. If he ever felt that was going to go a different way then I am happy to have that conversation with him but I want him to stay here and we will be very open both ways if that ever changed, but at the minute, he is very important to me,” Lampard said as he hammered home Giroud’s importance for the club.

Lampard Provides Insight On The Uptick In Defensive Form

Chasing a sixth successive win when they take on Rennes today, Group E leaders Chelsea have been on the ascendancy due to a remarkable turnaround in their defensive form. And Lampard took to talking about how the club has managed to overhaul its dwindling backline and unlock its true potential.

“We have coached and that started at the beginning of this season. That tiny pre-season that we have but we considered the main areas we lost goals in last season. So there were some tweaks to things to address on the training pitch. We have done that. Some of the goals we conceded last year were mistakes and some of the goals earlier in the season were mistakes. Against Southampton, at West Brom and so I think they are small details and fine margins.”

“What has changed in a big way is the confidence of the team in a defensive nature, the concentration of the team that should always be there but it is something you have to work and progress.”

“Personnel helps that with big individuals that have come in with Edouard Mendy, Ben Chilwell and Thiago Silva. That obviously helps but the collective has to be the most important thing and the lads are working well and are confident so we need to continue,” Lampard spoke out on the club’s defensive improvement.
