Chelsea set to land Premier league’s best defender?
Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has said that he wishes to make at least four more signings before the transfer window shuts.
Conte has publicly expressed his disappointment over the lack of transfer activity happening with Chelsea this season. The Chelsea boss has reportedly ordered the board to get the players in, otherwise they could face a very tough season ahead of them.
Conte has already said that the coming season will be the most difficult season of his managerial career so far. The troubles between the board and the boss started very early on in the summer, with Conte even apparently considering his future at one point.
But now that he has committed to two more years at the club, Conte has his eyes set on retaining the league title as well as mounting a challenge in Europe.
And he wants to add Southampton’s Van Dijk to his squad ahead of the first league match in a week’s time. The Dutch defender has informed his club that he wishes to leave the Saints this summer.

While Liverpool are his preferred destination, Southampton are still upset with the way Liverpool tried to tap him up earlier in the summer. The Saints would much rather do business with some other club, which is why Chelsea have become very interested.
After the departure of John Terry, Chelsea will be looking for another big personality at the back. Van Djik could provide that, as he has consistently proved himself to be one of the best defenders in the Premier league.
