Chelsea Transfer News: Frank Lampard's transfer target sheds light on his speculated role with the Blues

Chelsea Transfer News: Frank Lampard’s transfer target Declan Rice sheds light on his alleged role with the Blues if he makes the move.

Declan Rice, who has been reportedly targeted by Frank Lampard to organize his homecoming. Lampard wants to place him at the heart of the defence and Rice is ready to accept that role.

According to a report published by Sun, Lampard wants Rice to play in defence instead of debuting him in midfield, and according to a report by the Evening Standard is ready to accept the role.

Chelsea has already made two mega signings ahead of the new season in Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech, but the Blues need to make solid reinforcements in the defence.

As of now, their alternate targets in defence are Ben Chilwell and Dayot Upamecano, but both of them are rated above £50 million each, and both of their current clubs are not willing to reduce the pricing of their players.

Lampard has already asserted that Antonio Rudiger is the only definite starting defender on the team, hence it is a clear indication that Chelsea is surely looking for options,

Chelsea under Lampard has shown significant signs of improvement but there are definitely gaps to fill in the squad. But amidst all of this debuting Rice as a defender is a strange plan.

Although the English midfielder initially broke into West ham squad as a central defender, he was soon promoted into the midfield. However, there are definitely better options for Lampard to seek.

But considering Rice can play a role in midfield too, his flexibility in midfield can totally help Chelsea suit their situations.
