Chelsea Transfer News: Tottenham approach the Blues for World Cup winner for a possible transfer before the window closes on Friday.
Despite having their transfer embargo lifted, Chelsea are yet to make any additions to the squad they have. Instead, they look set to offload with reports emerging of Tottenham’s interest in one of their players.

According to Italian Sky Sport reporter Gianluca Di Marzio, the Lilywhites have approached Chelsea for the possibility of bringing in Olivier Giroud before the transfer window closes. With Harry Kane out injured at least until April, Spurs are short on strikers in the squad. The report adds that they have offered the World Cup winner an 18-month contract.
Olivier Giroud and the London Dream
Giroud’s contract at Stamford Bridge comes to an end in the summer with the striker unlikely to sign a renewal. Tottenham have identified the French international as short-term fix. However, Chelsea may not be too willing to allow one of their players to go to a direct rival.
Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho had previously spoken on various Tottenham players such as Heung-Min Son and Dele Alli being exceptional attacking players but not a number 9. It is to this end, that the club were linked with names such as Krzysztof Piatek and Willian Jose. However, a failure to agree with the valuations of Milan and Sociedad respectively has seen Daniel Levy look at other options.
Giroud has played for Arsenal before. Should he move to Tottenham, he will have played for all the major clubs in London.
Chelsea clearly prefer Michhy Batshuayi as Tammy Abraham’s understudy. Giroud, who is looking for game time in a bid to lockdown a spot in the French Squad for Euro 2020, could force Chelsea to complete the transfer.
However, it is unlikely that Chelsea will relent and allow themselves to strengthen a top-4 and local rival and leave themselves with Batshuayi as the only other recognised striker at Frank Lampard’s disposal.
