There are some fans however, who feel that the announcement is insincere considering the ‘Notorious one has made two such announcements in the past only to return to the octagon once again.

Not the first time

Back in 2016, McGregor famously retired young after getting into a dispute with the UFC over travelling to do media for a UFC 200 bout with Nate Diaz.

The second of his retirements came last year while he was in the midst of negotiations with the UFC over his next fight.

As we know now, he returned to the UFC and faced Donald Cerrone this year. He beat the cowboy in just 40 seconds to make an emphatic return to the sport.

Dana White reacts to Conor McGregor’s retirement

McGregor is a former 2 division champion and was recently hailed by Dana White as the biggest star in the promotion. Upon learning of the Irishman’s decision, the UFC President said:

“If Conor McGregor feels he wants to retire, you know my feelings about retirement — you should absolutely do it. And I love Conor … there’s a handful of people that have made this really fun for me. And he’s one of them.”

If the retirement sticks, McGregor the UFC will have lost the services of their most popular star just days after Jon Jones and Jorge Masvidal have asked for their release from their contract.

“If that’s what Conor is feeling right now — Jon Jones, Jorge Masvidal, I feel you,” White said. “It’s not like I’m going, ‘Holy s—, this is crazy, this is nuts.’ Nothing is crazy and nuts right now, because everything is crazy and nuts right now, on a certain level. I totally understand it and get it.”

Like most combat sports enthusiasts, his passion for watching people fight began with WWE when he witnessed a young Brock Lesnar massacre Hulk Hogan back in 2002. This very passion soon branched out to boxing and mixed martial arts. Over the years he fell in love with the theatrics that preceded the bell and the poetic carnage that followed after. Each bruise a story to tell, each wound a song of struggle, his greatest desire is to be there to witness it all. His favorite wrestler is Shawn Michaels and he believes that GSP is the greatest to ever step foot inside the octagon. Apart from wrestling, he is also fond of poetry and music.
