Chattogram Test records: Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium Test record and highest innings totals

Venue for the third Bangladesh-India ODI on Sunday, Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium will now be hosting the first Test match between these two teams in less than 12 hours from now.

Set to be the 23rd Chattogram Test, it will be the second one to be played in 2022. Bangladesh have participated in all the Tests at this venue by virtue of being the hosts. Having said that, they don’t have the best of records on the back of two wins and 13 losses over the years. India, on the other hand, have won and drawn a Test each out of their two Chattogram Tests.

In what will be the first Bangladesh-India Test here in almost 13 years, no Indian cricketer part of the current squad has played a Test match at this stadium in the past. As a result, don’t expect the presence of Indian cricketers in the below mentioned records.

Chattogram Test records

Highest Test run-scorers at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium are Mushfiqur Rahim (1,406), Mominul Haque (1,205), Tamil Iqbal (1,038), Shakib Al Hasan (891) and Kumar Sangakkara (598).

Other than Rahim, Haque and Shakib, Liton Das (554) and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (269) are the other Bangladeshi players part of the current squad to have done well in this format at this venue. Considering the number of matches that they’ve played here, Bangladeshi players dominating the stats shouldn’t be a surprise by any means.

Highest Test wicket-takers at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium are Shakib (64), Taijul Islam (43), Miraz (29), Shahadat Hossain (22) and Nayeem Hasan (18).

Chattogram has predominantly been a high-scoring Test venue with the 500-run mark crossed on nine out of the 82 innings played here.

Bangladesh, who have always been at the receiving end of the above mentioned highest innings totals, have themselves touched the 500-run mark thrice here. Considering the pitch report for Bangladesh-India Test starting tomorrow, fans can brace themselves for a quintessential run fest.

That being said, there isn’t a stark difference when it comes to teams batting first or second. Out of the 15 Chattogram Tests which have yielded a result, eight have been won by teams batting first as compared to seven by teams batting second.
