"Deserved a 100": Jofra Archer reacts to Ben Stokes getting out on 99 after freak knock in Pune ODI

Ben Stokes getting out on 99: The English all-rounder changed the course of the match on the back of his 21st ODI half-century.

During the second ODI of the ongoing England’s tour of India in Pune, England all-rounder Ben Stokes played a whirlwind innings to change the course of the match with his 21st ODI half-century.

The Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium witnessed one of the most brutal hitting sessions in white-ball cricket as Stokes and England opening batsman Jonny Bairstow (124) put together a 175-run partnership for the second wicket.

Coming in to bat at No. 3 in the 17th over, Stokes smashed three sixes off India all-rounder Krunal Pandya to both get his eye in and express his intentions in a 337-run chase.

With Bairstow also finding boundaries at ease, the English pair snatched the advantage from the hosts to the extent that they made a mockery of a high-scoring chase.

Stokes, who completed his half-century off 40 balls, scored his next 49 runs off just 12 balls to eventually score 99 (52) with the help of four fours and 10 sixes. Given the carnage which took place, it doesn’t make sense to mention who all did Stokes attack for he didn’t spare anyone especially the Indian spinners making them look clueless.

Stokes, who was fortunate to survive a run-out appeal, got out after one of his pull shots off Bhuvneshwar Kumar saw him edging the ball to India wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant. Having stunned one and all with his batting tonight, Stokes allured praises from both his teammates and former cricketers for his crazy innings.
