ENG vs IND 2021 Test: Mayank Agarwal returns to nets ahead of England vs India Lord's Test

Mayank Agarwal returns to nets: The Indian opening batsman was seen batting in the nets after suffering a concussion injury.

India opening batsman Mayank Agarwal appears to have recovered from his concussion injury after he was spotted batting in the nets ahead of the second England vs India Test match at Lord’s.

Agarwal, who was expected to open the batting alongside Rohit Sharma in the first Test at Trent Bridge, received a blow on the helmet while batting in the nets against Mohammad Siraj.

As a result, Agarwal was ruled out of the match and was subsequently replaced by Lokesh Rahul. Grabbing a surprise opportunity at the top of the order with both hands, Rahul top-scored for India in the first innings scoring 84 (214) with the help of 12 fours.

Given how Sharma and Rahul looked in control in Nottingham, it will be interesting to see if India will bring back Agarwal into the Playing XI.

Irrespective of whether he plays or not on Thursday, the Indian team management will be relieved to see a match-fit Agarwal for the visitors have already lost three players to injuries on this tour.

Agarwal, the last of whose 14 Tests was the historic Brisbane Test against Australia earlier this year, has scored 1,052 Test runs at an average of 45.73 including three centuries and four half-centuries.

Other than Agarwal, Sharma was also spotted batting in the nets at Lord’s. Sharma, who was unbeaten at the crease alongside Cheteshwar Pujara when rain abandoned Day 5 of the first Test, would want to convert his starts into a substantial score in the imminent Test.
