Fabian Allen cricket: Punjab Kings all-rounder grabs one-handed stunner to dismiss Danushka Gunathilaka in Antigua T20I

Fabian Allen: The West Indian all-rounder put on display a fantastic fielding effort to draw first blood in the decider match.

During the third T20I of the ongoing Sri Lanka’s tour of West Indies in Antigua, West Indies all-rounder Fabian Allen put on display a fantastic fielding effort to draw first blood after visiting captain Angelo Mathews won the toss and chose to bat.

It all happened on the first delivery of the third over when Sri Lanka opening batsman Danushka Gunathilaka wanted to play an aerial shot back past Allen. In his follow-through, the left-arm spinner was alert enough to realize a catching opportunity as he put out his non-bowling hand to complete the dismissal.

Opening the batting with Pathum Nissanka (5), Gunathilaka had to walk back to the pavilion after scoring 9 (9) to become the first Sri Lanka batsman to get out at the Collidge Cricket Ground today.

Allen, who opened the bowling for the hosts, picked economical bowling figures of 4-0-13-1. Other than Allen, the likes of Kevin Sinclair, Jason Holder and Obed McCoy also contributed with a wicket each as West Indies reduced Sri Lanka to 131/4 in 20 overs.

In what was another low-scoring T20I on a spin-friendly surface, Sri Lanka managed a competitive total on the back of an unbeaten 85-run partnership for the fifth wicket between batsmen Dinesh Chandimal (54 not out) and Ashen Bandara (44 not out).

It is worth mentioning that Allen was bought by Indian Premier League franchise Punjab Kings for his base price of INR 75 lakh in the IPL 2021 auction last month.
