How old is Chris Gayle: Gayle completes 14,000 T20 runs; smashes half-century in WI vs AUS 3rd T20I

Gayle completes 14,000 T20 runs: The Universe Boss returned to form at the highest level with a match-winning half-century.

During the third T20I of the ongoing Australia’s tour of West Indies in St Lucia, veteran West Indies batsman Chris Gayle returned to form with a match-winning half-century as his innings played a vital role in West Indies chasing down a 142-run target in the 15th over.

Coming in to bat at No. 3 in the first over itself, Gayle hit his fourth delivery for a massive six off Australia fast bowler Josh Hazlewood and followed it up with three consecutive boundaries to regain his lost touch.

It was then in the ninth over that Gayle hit his next boundary tonking Australia spinner Adam Zampa for a six to become the first batsman to score 14,000 runs in T20 cricket. In 430 T20s, 41-year old Gayle has now scored 14,038 runs at an average and strike rate of 37.63 and 146.18 respectively. In his 16-year old career, Gayle also has 22 centuries and 87 half-centuries under his belt.

Taking on Zampa in his next over as well, Gayle smashed as many as three sixes and a four to reach to his 14th T20I half-century. With the target in vicinity, Gayle then targeted Riley Meredith for a couple of sixes before getting out to him after scoring 67 (38) with the help of four fours and seven sixes.

In what is their third victory in a row, West India have gained an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series. After Australia captain Aaron Finch had won the toss and chose to bat, Australia could only manage 141/6 in 20 overs as Hayden Walsh (2), Obed McCoy (1), Dwayne Bravo (1) and Fabian Allen (1) were among the wicket at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium.
