"In My World Cup squad": Yuvraj Singh bats for Suryakumar Yadav after his half-century in debut innings vs England

Yuvraj Singh bats for Suryakumar Yadav: The former Indian all-rounder has lent his support behind the rookie batsman.

During the fourth T20I of the ongoing England’s tour of India in Ahmedabad, India batsman Suryakumar Yadav scored a half-century in debut innings to make his presence felt at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

Replacing injured Ishan Kishan in the Playing XI tonight, Yadav came in to bat at No. 3 in the fourth over. Yadav, who hit a six off Jofra Archer on the first ball that he faced in international cricket, continued batting in the same fashion to become an instant source of amazement for one and all.

With other Indian batsmen not finding boundaries regularly, Yadav single-handedly pumped momentum into the Indian innings. Having hit boundaries off Mark Wood and Chris Jordan in the powerplay, Yadav attacked England spinner Adil Rashid to hit him for a four and a six in the seventh over.

While Indian batsmen haven’t found it easy to score runs off Rashid, the same wasn’t the case for Yadav who further hit a couple of boundaries off the leg-spinner in the 12th over. It was in the same over that Yadav registered a 28-ball half-century.

Yadav, who welcomed England all-rounder Sam Curran by sweeping him for a six in the 14th over, got out while replicating a similar shot on the next delivery. That being said, Yadav made the most of this opportunity by scoring 57 (31) with the help of six fours and three sixes.

Known to play unconventional shots with a high degree of fearlessness, Yadav didn’t deter from his natural approach tonight. Yadav, who was averse to showing nerves in his first innings at the highest level, earned praise from many former cricketers and experts including former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh.

Expressing happiness for the 30-year old player, Yuvraj didn’t shy away from announcing Yadav in his Indian squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2021.
