India and New Zealand will lock horns against each other for the third time in the ongoing series to put an end to Indore’s more than half-a-decade long-wait for One-Day International cricket.

With the series winner already decided, the imminent third ODI between the two teams will be a proper dead-rubber as this series is not part of ICC Men’s World Cup Super League. Irrespective of who wins, locals in the city would be hoping for a cracking contest especially when a 50-over match is being played after a long interval.
Been suggested by experts to skip this match and participate in the last round of Ranji Trophy instead ahead of Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023, India captain Rohit Sharma and former captain Virat Kohli appear to have not paid much heed to the same.

Having said that, India might still tinker with their Playing XI in this match to give opportunities to reserve players. The same can also be said of the visitors especially with respect to their non-performers from the first two matches.
India Indore Cricket Stadium records
It is noteworthy that India not only have an impeccable record at the Holkar Stadium in ODIs but across formats. Yet to lose an ODI here in spite of five attempts, India have won nine out of a total of 10 international matches across formats at this stadium.
An unbeaten ODI record means that India have registered ODI victories in the city in 2006, 2008, 2011, 2015 and 2017. It is worth a mention that the home team has achieved success here under various captains, with different players and in times when the format was played in a whole different mode.
Among players part of the current squad, highest run-scorer in Indore ODIs are Sharma (104), Hardik Pandya (78) and Kohli (63). Kuldeep Yadav (2), Yuzvendra Chahal (1) and Pandya (1) are the only three Indian bowlers part of the current squad to have picked wicket(s) at this venue.
